Download VeiligSamen
VeiligSamen is coming for Android and iOS. Below is what you need and what happens the first time you open the app, so you know what you are starting before you install it.
In the stores
The app is not published yet, so the buttons above do nothing for now. As soon as it is in the stores they will work, and we will say so here.
What you need
Not much. Everything the app asks for has a direct bearing on alerting neighbours.
- A phone running Android or iOS that can have location switched on. Without location the app cannot tell who is near you, and the SOS button is disabled — the app then says why.
- Notifications you are willing to allow, or an SOS from your neighbourhood will not reach you.
- An email address. You sign in with it, and that is where we send the confirmation code.
- An internet connection at the moment you send or receive an alert.
The first time
Four steps, a couple of minutes in all. The permissions deliberately come *after* signing in: you see what the app is for first, and decide afterwards.
- 1
See how it works
On first launch, three screens show you what the SOS button does. After that you can create an account or sign in if you already have one.
- 2
Create an account
You enter your name, your email address and a password. Neighbours who receive your alert do not see your name, only the distance to you. If you accept someone who comes to help, you see each other's names, so you know who is arriving. Your email address is never shared.
- 3
Confirm your email address
We send you a six-digit code. Enter it in the app — that is how we know we can reach you if you lose your password.
- 4
Allow notifications and location
After signing in, the app explains on two screens why they are needed and only then asks. Say no and the app keeps working; it simply tells you honestly what will no longer be possible. Under Permissions in the menu you can see what you have allowed and what the app uses it for.
What it costs
Nothing. The app is free, there are no paid features, there is no subscription and you see no advertising. We do not sell your data either — the privacy policy says exactly what we do with it.
Do it together with your street
The app only works once there are neighbours nearby who have it too. Install it on your own and there is nobody to receive your alert. One message in the neighbourhood group helps more than anything else.
